Rug Health Report

Protect Your Rug Like the Investment It Is

At Bob's Oriental Rugs, we understand your rug is more than just part of your home — it’s part of your story. Whether it’s a family heirloom or a carefully chosen piece, it deserves more than a basic cleaning.

That’s why every rug we care for receives a full Rug Health Check before it’s returned to you. It’s our way of making sure your rug stays protected for years to come.

What We Look For

Rug Fibers

Fiber & Weave Condition

The foundation and fibers of your rug are what hold it together. Over time, normal foot traffic, vacuuming, or even improper cleaning can weaken these fibers. We check for:

  • Areas where the pile is thinning or worn down

  • Sections of the rug where the weave feels loose or compromised

  • Signs of damage near the edges where rugs tend to wear out first

If we catch these issues early, small repairs can prevent bigger problems down the road.

Rug Moth Damage

Odor or Pest Concerns

Rugs can quietly collect odors or attract pests, especially in storage or in high-humidity areas. We check for:

  • Musty, mildew-like smells that indicate moisture issues

  • Signs of moth activity, like webbing or worn patches

  • Pet odors or hidden stains that can linger even after surface cleaning

If we find any issues, we’ll guide you through safe, effective treatments to protect your rug.

Rug Fading

Color Stability & Fading

Many handmade rugs use natural dyes, and over time, those dyes can shift or fade. We carefully assess:

  • Whether any areas of the rug show uneven fading

  • If sunlight or cleaning has caused dyes to bleed or run

  • The overall stability of the colors to help preserve the rug's look and value

If needed, we can recommend safe ways to reduce further fading or address existing dye issues.

Traffic & Placement Damage

The way a rug is placed in your home makes a big difference. We assess:

  • Whether certain areas are wearing down faster from foot traffic

  • If heavy furniture is crushing the pile or causing indentations

  • Whether you need better padding underneath to protect the rug and your floors

We’ll give you honest feedback on what adjustments can help your rug wear more evenly and last longer.

Rug Fringe

Fringe & Edge Condition

Fringes and edges aren't just for decoration — they help protect the rug’s structure. Once they start to fray, unraveling can happen quickly. We inspect:

  • The length and strength of the fringe

  • Whether knots at the ends are coming undone

  • The condition of the side bindings or edges that prevent the rug from curling or unraveling

If we spot problems, we can recommend options for fringe repair, replacement, or edge reinforcement.

Patterned Carpet

Foundation & Backing Condition

The foundation of your rug — the threads and structure underneath the visible pile — is just as important as what you see on the surface. Over time, damage to the foundation can cause ripples, uneven wear, or even tearing. We inspect:

  • The tightness and stability of the foundation threads

  • Signs of dry rot, which weakens the backing of older rugs

  • Damage or separation where the rug may have been improperly stored or exposed to moisture

  • Warping, rippling, or unevenness that affects how the rug lays flat

Catching foundation issues early is one of the best ways to prevent costly repairs later and helps your rug stay in good, usable condition for years to come.
