Rug Flood Cleaning Charlotte

Rugs Damaged by Flooding or Water? We Can Help.

Whether it's a storm, pipe burst, or washer overflow—flooded rugs need immediate attention.

When a rug gets soaked in a flood—whether from a natural disaster or a home emergency—time is critical. The longer a rug stays wet, the more damage it absorbs. Fibers weaken. Dye runs. Odors sink in. And mold can begin growing deep in the foundation within hours.

At Bob’s Oriental Rugs, we specialize in rescuing rugs affected by water—no matter the type, age, or level of damage. From antique Persian pieces to synthetic machine-made rugs, we’ve helped hundreds of homeowners across Charlotte recover their rugs after unexpected water exposure.

What Water Can Do to a Rug

  • Permanent dye bleed and color migration

  • Mold and mildew growth inside the fibers

  • Structural warping from soaked cotton foundations

  • Severe odor retention (especially in wool or tufted rugs)

  • Fiber breakdown that leads to shedding or bald spots

  • Delamination in tufted or glued rugs

Even if the rug looks like it’s drying on the surface, moisture can remain trapped deep inside.

What to Do If Your Rug Gets Wet

Don’t wait

The sooner you bring it in, the better your chance of full restoration. Waiting even a day or two can lead to dye bleed, mildew, or irreversible damage.

Do not fold or roll it tightly

Keep the rug flat if possible, or roll it loosely. Tight folding traps moisture and puts pressure on the fibers, increasing the risk of cracking, warping, or mold growth.

Dry it as much as you can, as soon as you can

The longer the rug stays wet, the worse the damage will be. Use fans, airflow, and open space to help release moisture—but avoid applying heat directly. Quick drying helps minimize dye migration, mildew, and odor.

Flood Rug Cleaning

Our Process for Flood-Damaged Rugs

Every rug is inspected and handled individually. We use a multi-step, chemical-free cleaning process to safely restore water-damaged rugs:

  • Deep hand-flushing to remove bacteria, dirty water, and moisture from the foundation

  • Mold and odor treatment using water-based solutions (no harsh chemicals)

  • Natural sunlight drying with elevated airflow to prevent mildew

  • Detailed grooming to restore softness and texture

  • Inspection for necessary repairs (we can re-secure, reweave, or reinforce the rug if needed)

We treat every rug based on its material—wool, silk, cotton, or synthetic—and use methods tailored to its construction.

Will My Rug Be Salvageable?

It depends on how quickly we can get to it, what kind of rug it is, and how long it remained wet. Rugs left wet for days or stored rolled up while damp often develop deep mold damage—but we’ll always give you an honest assessment.

If the rug is beyond saving, we can still clean it for safe disposal or sentimental display. In many cases, however, we’re able to fully restore the look, feel, and structure of flood-damaged rugs.
